Umno opens doors to KJ, Hishammuddin and Syed Hamid 17.04.2026

Umno has officially approved the unconditional return of prominent former leaders Khairy Jamaluddin, Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hussein, and Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar. This decision, confirmed by Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki on Friday night, follows a party leadership meeting in Melaka. Hishammuddin had previously expressed readiness to rejoin, while Khairy appealed his January 2023 sacking, and Syed Hamid, who left for Bersatu in 2018, also signaled his intent to return. This move aligns with party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's stance of keeping doors open for former members, with 6,252 already readmitted via the Gagasan Rumah Bangsa initiative. Additionally, Umno amended membership rules for easier online registration, particularly for youth. The party also urged its-led states to provide targeted aid amidst rising living costs due to fuel price hikes and global inflation, and announced its 80th anniversary celebrations from May 1-5 in Kuala Lumpur.
