World Cup fans will have to pay $150 for NY stadium train ticket, officials say 12h ago

World Cup fans traveling between New York and the Meadowlands stadium for the 2026 tournament will face a significant price increase for train tickets, with officials announcing a $150 charge for the 58-km roundtrip journey, a stark contrast to the usual $12.90 fare. Only 40,000 tickets will be available per game. New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill attributed the hike to FIFA, citing the state's $48 million safety bill and arguing that FIFA, projected to earn $11 billion, should cover these costs rather than burdening local commuters. This decision has drawn criticism from other New York and New Jersey officials, as well as FIFA itself, which stated that host city agreements required free transportation and that similar events have not historically required organizers to pay for fan transport.
