Search suspended after passenger apparently jumped overboard Carnival Cruise Line ship bound for Sydney 18.04.2026

A male passenger on the Carnival Splendor cruise ship apparently jumped overboard approximately 30km northeast of Moreton Island, Queensland, during an overnight voyage from Moreton Island towards Sydney. Carnival Cruise Line confirmed that CCTV footage corroborated the passenger's action of climbing over the safety railing and jumping. The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) is leading a search and rescue operation, utilizing Challenger jets, rescue helicopters, and surface vessels, with assistance from Queensland Police. Carnival's Care Team is providing support to the passenger's family, and the company will continue its cooperation with authorities when the ship docks in Sydney.
