Fahmi: Govt to streamline anti-scam efforts with new laws, joint agency session soon 18.04.2026

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil announced that the Malaysian government will convene a special session involving all relevant stakeholders, including telecommunication companies and banks, to address the growing issue of online scams. This initiative stems from a recent engagement meeting where the need for a unified approach was recognized, as different enforcement agencies may possess varying levels of understanding regarding scam tactics. The session, expected to take place within a few weeks, aims to foster a common understanding across all participating entities and explore potential new legislation or streamlined enforcement strategies to combat diverse forms of online fraud, such as investment and love scams, which exploit various platforms including social media, WhatsApp, and Telegram.
