Tanzania's Mapito Safari Camp recognised among Africa’s leading luxury tented Safari camps 18.04.2026

Mapito Safari Camp, a new luxury tented safari camp located in Robanda village near Tanzania's Serengeti, has been nominated for "Africa’s Leading Luxury Tented Safari Camp" at the 2026 World Travel Awards, less than a year after opening. The camp, which is part of Marriott's Autograph Collection, represents a significant luxury tourism development in a conservation area, raising questions about its integration with local social and environmental fabrics. Mapito has emphasized local engagement, sourcing approximately 90 percent of its construction and furnishing materials within Tanzania and involving local women's groups and artisans. Furthermore, the camp is actively addressing healthcare gaps by funding a full-time doctor and providing essential medicines to the Robanda Health Center, while also supporting medical outreach programs. With 106 employees, 98 of whom are Tanzanian, Mapito is also a significant source of local employment and has invested in hospitality training for its staff, contributing to positive guest feedback on service quality.
