AI part of £3.4m project to 'modernise' authority 18.04.2026

Gloucestershire County Council is initiating a £3.4 million project named "Stronger Futures" to modernize its operations and address rising costs by integrating artificial intelligence (AI) and digital tools. Deputy leader Colin Hay announced the program, emphasizing its aim to reduce waste, enhance service delivery, curb unnecessary expenditures, and improve value for money, thereby avoiding detrimental cuts to community services. The plan seeks to streamline council functions, increase efficiency, and ensure accountability. A decision on the project is anticipated on April 22. However, the initiative has faced criticism from opposition leaders, with concerns raised about potential increases in council tax and the effective implementation of AI.
