Nationalist Party backs Valletta FC campus plan 20h ago

The Nationalist Party has publicly declared its backing for Valletta FC's proposed football campus in Pembroke, a project involving the transfer of public land for development. Opposition leader Alex Borg confirmed the party's support, framing it as an investment in youth, sport, and the community, and pledged to vote in favor when the motion reaches parliament. This plan, announced by the government in February, designates a site for office and residential development, valued between €75 million and €100 million, which will feature multiple pitches, administrative facilities, and Malta's first futsal facility, with a portion also allocated to Swieqi United. Despite this support, Pembroke residents have launched a parliamentary petition with over 1,600 signatures opposing the transfer due to concerns about loss of open space, environmental impacts, and increased pollution, calling for comprehensive assessments and public consultation.
