Israeli ministers celebrate re-establishment of Sa-Nur West Bank settlement 19.04.2026

Israeli ministers Bezalel Smotrich and Israel Katz participated in the official reopening of the Sa-Nur settlement in the occupied West Bank on Sunday, 21 years after its evacuation in 2005 as part of the disengagement policy. Finance Minister Smotrich hailed the event as a "historic correction to the criminal expulsion" and declared that Israeli authorities were "burying the idea of a Palestinian state." The settlement, located south of Jenin, has been approved for 126 housing units, with 16 families already having moved in. This re-establishment follows a March 2023 amendment to the disengagement law and recent government approvals for four former settlements, actions criticized by rights groups as violations of international law and contributing to increased settler violence, particularly since October 7, 2023.
