Parents warned after rat poison found in baby food 20.04.2026

Parents in Austria have been alerted to a serious contamination incident involving HiPP baby food, with a jar testing positive for rat poison in Eisenstadt. Swiss-headquartered HiPP has initiated a precautionary recall of all jarred purees sold at approximately 1,500 Spar supermarket branches across Austria, as well as Eurospar, Interspar, and Maximarkt locations, due to the potentially life-threatening substance. Police in the Burgenland region are investigating, with customers advised to check for damaged lids, missing seals, and unusual smells on jars, particularly those with a white sticker and red circle on the bottom. HiPP indicated the contamination could be due to external criminal interference within the Spar Austria distribution channel, prompting investigations by Austrian police and potentially in Germany, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia.
