WATCH | How to beat Malta’s traffic problem 21.04.2026

A Maltese journalist, inspired by the song "Ħafna Karozzi" by Brodu, explored alternative transportation methods to understand the island's traffic issues. Brodu's frontman, Mark Iż-Żiżża Abela, shared that the song's inspiration came from observing Malta's growing car numbers 20 years ago, noting that current car figures are significantly higher. The journalist tested car, bus, ferry, and bicycle commutes from Żabbar to San Ġwann during the Easter holidays to compare travel times and experiences. While the car commute was the fastest at 30 minutes, it was also comfortable. The bus journey took an hour, the ferry-bus combination an hour and 20 minutes, and the bicycle ride took under 40 minutes, proving potentially faster than a car in heavier traffic. This experiment revealed that dependence on cars is not always the most practical solution, highlighting the convenience of alternatives.
