PRIME How Kenya’s imported fuel ends up at the petrol station 7h ago

Kenya faces a significant fuel import conundrum involving a 60,000 metric ton consignment of petrol that entered the country outside the government-to-government (G-to-G) deal, disrupting the standard import process. Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi's directive to recall the product has proven unfeasible, as oil marketers report the fuel is already commingled with existing stocks within the Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) system. The article details the typical fuel import pathway, from sourcing from regions like the Gulf, India, Belgium, and the Netherlands, to its arrival and testing at the port of Mombasa. Subsequently, compliant fuel is discharged into KPC's extensive storage and pipeline network, which spans 1,342 kilometers and includes multiple depots across the country, before reaching retail outlets.
