The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained three men, including the deputy chairman of a non-governmental organisation (NGO), in connection with the alleged misappropriation of RM230 million in zakat funds. The arrests, conducted by the Selangor MACC branch today, involved two individuals detained in the Klang Valley between 3pm and 5pm, and a third suspect apprehended earlier at 2am. These suspects, two of whom are company directors, are believed to have engaged in this misconduct over a six-year period from 2018 to 2024. Investigations reveal that the deputy chairman allegedly transferred the substantial zakat funds into his company’s account for both investment and personal use, prompting the seizure of 18 luxury vehicles, properties valued at RM11 million, cash, watches, and the freezing of 33 bank accounts holding RM120 million.
