Mexican authorities say attack that killed Canadian tourist at pyramids was ‘not spontaneous’ 6h ago

Mexican authorities revealed on Tuesday that the attack at the Teotihuacán pyramids on Monday, which resulted in the death of one Canadian tourist and injuries to 13 others, was premeditated, not a spontaneous act. The assailant, identified as 27-year-old Julio Cesar Jasso, had reportedly stayed at local hotels to gain proximity to the site before opening fire on tourists atop the Pyramid of the Moon. Jasso died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and authorities recovered a gun, knife, and ammunition. The incident, which occurred before noon, injured tourists of various nationalities including Americans, Colombians, a Russian, and Brazilians, with one Canadian also hospitalized. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum expressed sorrow and pledged a thorough investigation, while Canadian officials offered condolences and assistance.
