How top Social Development officials used late Minister’s name to falsify CVs 10h ago

A Daily Maverick investigation has revealed that top officials within the Department of Social Development, specifically Ngwako Kgatla (special adviser) and Lesedi Mabiletja (former chief of staff) to Minister Sisisi Tolashe, allegedly falsified their résumés by claiming work experience with the late Minister Hlengiwe Mkhize. Kgatla, appointed in July 2024, listed Mkhize, who died in September 2021, as a reference and claimed to have worked for her NGO, Nolwazi-STEM, from 2017-2018, predating the NGO's establishment in October 2018. Mabiletja, appointed in 2025, also claimed volunteer experience in Mkhize's office, which Mkhize's former head of office and daughter deny knowledge of. Kgatla's initial application was rejected by a vetting official for not meeting minimum requirements, prompting the submission of a revised CV with inflated job titles and altered dates, a move his lawyers attribute to updating rather than falsification.
