7 Filipino seafarers hurt in Iranian drone attack on ship, says DMW 07.05.2026

Seven Filipino seafarers were injured, three critically, when an Iranian drone attacked the Malta-flagged container ship CMA CGM San Antonio on May 5 as it transited the Strait of Hormuz near Oman. Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac confirmed the incident on Thursday, May 7, stating all injured seafarers, eight in total, are receiving medical treatment, with four having minor injuries and three in the ICU. The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has established communication with the crew and their families, with embassies and labor attachés monitoring the situation and planning hospital visits. The DMW is also facilitating the extraction of Filipino workers from the Persian Gulf and has eased restrictions on replacing disembarking crew members with other Filipinos, under specific conditions.
