Number of amputees set to rise in Gaza as Israel blocks aid, NGO warns 24.04.2026

Humanity & Inclusion UK has warned that the number of amputees in Gaza is expected to increase due to Israel's ongoing restrictions on medical aid, exacerbating an already critical situation. The organization highlighted that amputations reached unprecedented levels during the conflict, with conservative estimates suggesting exceptionally high per capita rates globally. As of early October 2025, the World Health Organization estimated 5,000 to 6,000 amputations occurred among 42,000 life-changing injuries sustained during the two-year conflict. Six months post-ceasefire, aid access remains unpredictable, with Israel approving all materials, and Humanity & Inclusion UK has been unable to deliver supplies since February 2025. Only nine prosthetists are operational in Gaza, facing immense pressure from component shortages, and international training is hindered by entry restrictions, while casualty rates continue to climb with over 700 reported killed and 2,000 injured since October 2025.
