Spoof website calls out Alberta government for its ‘referendumb’ 25.04.2026

Stephen Elaschuk, an Alberta resident, has launched a spoof website, "Alberta Referendumb 2026," to counter what he perceives as biased information from the UCP Government regarding an upcoming referendum. The provincial government plans to use public funds to promote its referendum questions on immigration and constitutional reform, scheduled for October 19. Elaschuk criticizes the official website for presenting a "narrow slice" of information, arguing it manipulates voters by suggesting a "right" answer. He asserts that Albertans are intelligent enough to discern facts from propaganda. The referendum proposals include charging non-permanent residents for healthcare and education and limiting these services based on immigration status, a move Elaschuk finds contradictory to previous government campaigns encouraging population growth.
