Clash in the European Parliament. Pérez (S&D): “The EPP is opposing a debate on Netanyahu’s atrocities” 28.04.2026

A significant political clash has emerged within the European Parliament, primarily between the Group of Socialists and Democrats (S&D) and the European People's Party (EPP), over the proposed debate on "atrocities committed by Netanyahu" during the April 27–30 plenary session. S&D chair Iratxe García Pérez condemned the EPP's opposition to this debate, which aims to address Israel's responsibilities toward Palestinians, including the perceived imposition of the death penalty. The Left group, represented by Manon Aubry, has also been a vocal proponent of such discussions and called for EU sanctions against the Israeli government and the suspension of the EU-Israel Association Agreement, drawing parallels to the EU's actions against Russia. While Renew chair Valérie Hayer suggested a need for calmer discussion, S&D and The Left are pushing for immediate votes on sanctions and an arms embargo, criticizing the EU's perceived failure and complicity in the Middle East conflict.
