Yomif Kejelcha achieved a historic feat in his marathon debut at the London Marathon, finishing second with a time of 1 hour, 59 minutes, and 41 seconds, making him the second person ever to break the two-hour barrier. He narrowly trailed Kenya's Sabastian Sawe, who set a new world record of 1 hour, 59 minutes, and 30 seconds. Kejelcha, an Ethiopian athlete aged 28, expressed immense satisfaction with his performance, calling it a dream come true and acknowledging it as the fastest marathon debut ever. Despite a long career in shorter distances and formerly holding the half-marathon and indoor mile world records, Kejelcha found marathons to be his new passion, appreciating the pace and finding the transition from track suited him well.
