Court delivers life sentences to Zimbabwean nationals for exploiting vulnerable children 17h ago

Three Zimbabwean nationals received life sentences from the Gauteng Division of the High Court in Johannesburg for their roles in a human trafficking scheme exploiting vulnerable children. Hilda Tenenga, Sthembiso Mlauzi, and Kumburai Andrew Masimo were convicted on multiple counts, including human trafficking, fraud, possession of fraudulent documents, and contravention of the Immigration Act. Tenenga was first arrested at OR Tambo International Airport on August 1, 2022, attempting to travel with four minor children using fraudulent documents. Investigations revealed the scheme aimed to traffic the children to Ireland. Senior State Advocate Makwena Mokwatedi argued the accused exploited the children, who were orphans. The court sentenced each to four life terms for trafficking, plus additional years for other charges, with sentences running concurrently.
