8 bagged bodies found with note in narco-trafficking hotspot 03.06.2026

Eight bodies have been discovered in plastic bags on the outskirts of Babahoyo, Ecuador, a known narco-trafficking hotspot. These victims are believed to be the eight individuals who went missing on Sunday while traveling between Daule and Milagro. Police Chief Col. Galo Munoz confirmed the discovery, which occurs amidst a U.S.-backed military crackdown on organized crime gangs contributing to Ecuador's surge in violence. A note found at the scene suggests the Los Lobos gang targeted the victims as part of their ongoing conflict with the rival Los Choneros gang, both major players in drug trafficking and extortion. Two of the missing individuals were minors. Ecuador's strategic location as a drug transit point has fueled this escalating violence, with over 9,200 violent deaths recorded last year.
