Over a year later, AMD is bringing improved FSR 4 upscaling to its older GPUs 14.05.2026

AMD is expanding support for its FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) 4 technology to older graphics cards, a year after its initial announcement that restricted the feature to newer RDNA4 architecture GPUs. This expansion will commence in July with RDNA3 and RDNA3.5-based GPUs, including the Radeon RX 7000 series and integrated graphics like the Radeon 890M and 8060S. Further broadening its reach, AMD plans to extend FSR 4 support to RDNA2 architecture in early 2027, which will benefit the Radeon RX 6000 series, integrated GPUs such as the Radeon 680M, and gaming devices like the Steam Deck, as well as current-generation PlayStation and Xbox consoles. The implementation on older hardware required adapting FSR 4 to utilize INT8 hardware instead of the RDNA4's FP8 data format, a process that AMD noted involved significant effort to ensure functionality.
