Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul has officially confirmed the vacation of the Pandan and Setiawangsa parliamentary seats following the resignations of Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad as Members of Parliament on Monday. The Speaker has formally notified the Election Commission (EC) of these vacancies. While the EC holds the discretion to call for by-elections, such elections are not mandatory as Parliament is set to dissolve within the next two years. However, the Speaker retains the prerogative to request by-elections from the EC if the government's parliamentary majority is impacted by these vacant seats. Rafizi and Nik Nazmi resigned their MP positions before leaving PKR to lead Parti Bersama Malaysia.
