Severe heatwave conditions are gripping multiple Indian states, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue orange and red alerts for regions including Delhi, East Uttar Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, and Vidarbha. Delhi is under an orange alert until May 26, with maximum temperatures expected to reach 45-46 degrees Celsius, and has already reported its first heatstroke patients. In response to the extreme heat, Punjab's government offices and schools will operate from 7:30 am to 1:30 pm starting Monday, May 25. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu is experiencing temperatures above 39 degrees Celsius in over 15 districts, with Chennai recording a high of 42 degrees Celsius. The intense heat has also led to a sharp rise in power consumption in Lucknow.
