The EU Council approves simplifying pesticide regulations and facilitates drone usage 27.05.2026

The EU Council has approved amendments to the "Omnibus X" package, aiming to simplify agricultural and food regulations. Key changes include facilitating drone usage for targeted pesticide spraying, potentially offering a lower risk than land-based applications and reducing administrative burdens by allowing derogations from individual application approvals under certain conditions. The Council's mandate clarifies the European Food Safety Authority's role in assessing drone spraying risks and sets a 30-month timeline for identifying approved drone types. Additionally, record-keeping duplication for farm animal treatments has been eliminated, and outdated directives on food-contact plastics are proposed for repeal, as they are covered by existing regulations. These measures intend to streamline procedures while maintaining high safety and environmental standards.
