Marvin Lee Holloway, 57, has been charged with capital murder in connection with the May 27, 1986, rape and murder of Ruby Battee, 34, in Dallas, Texas. Holloway, who is currently serving a life sentence at the William G. McConnell facility for a separate murder conviction in 1988, was linked to Battee's death through DNA evidence. Previously untested items from the 1986 crime scene, including sexual assault kit swabs and underwear, were submitted for analysis in January 2025. A partial male DNA profile developed from these items led to a match in the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) on May 5, identifying Holloway. This breakthrough, nearly 40 years after the murder, highlights the advancements in DNA testing since the limited capabilities available in the 1980s.
