Former Zambian Vice President urges African youth to dismantle colonial-era barriers 29.05.2026

Former Zambian Vice President Nevers Mumba addressed the 9th YouLead Summit 2026 in Arusha, urging over 300 young African leaders to dismantle colonial-era barriers hindering continental unity and development. He emphasized that fragmentation along national borders and restrictive systems prevent young Africans from collaborating effectively, thereby constraining their collective potential. Mumba highlighted Africa's substantial youth population (over 400 million aged 15-35) as a powerful force for transformation if mobilized. He stressed the urgency of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 and encouraged young people to embrace leadership and innovation, particularly in the green transition, while warning against corruption and advocating for ethical leadership.
