TMC's Abhishek Banerjee assaulted by ‘BJP workers’: Eggs, stones, shoes hurled 30.05.2026

Trinamool Congress (TMC) National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee was allegedly assaulted by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers on Saturday afternoon in Sonarpur, South 24 Parganas. While visiting to meet the families of victims of post-poll violence, Banerjee was reportedly pushed, had eggs and sandals thrown at him, and his shirt was torn. Accusations of "chor chor" (thief, thief) were heard, and he and former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee were allegedly abused. Banerjee, who was wearing a helmet, stated the attackers were BJP-backed hooligans and threatened to approach the Calcutta High Court and the governor regarding the absence of police. BJP state president Samik Bhattacharya urged for peace, while acknowledging past TMC violence.
