Huge B.C. island campground part of $7.2-million upgrade now open 11h ago

The Tribune Bay campground on Hornby Island, a popular B.C. park known as "Little Hawaii," has undergone a significant $7.2-million redevelopment, with partial openings available until May 31 and again from June 4 to June 7, followed by a full opening on June 10. This project, initiated after BC Parks acquired former private campground properties in 2021, integrates these lands into Tribune Bay Provincial Park, aiming to enhance visitor experience while preserving the natural environment. Upgrades include 66 new campsites, 24 electrified sites, nine accessible basic cabins, accessible showers and pit toilets, a new playground, and the restoration of over 5,000 native plants to improve ecological health and stormwater management. Phase 2 of the redevelopment is slated to begin in 2027.
