PRIME Ex-Scangroup boss rallies shareholders to expel CEO, board 01.06.2026

WPP Scangroup founder and former CEO Bharat Thakrar is spearheading an activist investor campaign to oust the current board at the company's upcoming AGM on Monday. He is rallying minority shareholders, who collectively hold 13.59 percent of the company's shares, to vote for the removal of the existing directors and the election of a new slate, citing a significant decline in financial performance. Minority shareholders point to a 62 percent drop in the company's share price since Thakrar's removal, aggregate trading losses of approximately Sh3.3 billion between 2021 and 2025, a widening net loss, and declining revenues. They also question a Sh1.2 billion loan to parent company WPP at a low interest rate, alongside the loss of major clients like KCB, Equity, NCBA, and Airtel Africa.
