Recent import bans by Russia on Armenian agricultural products have prompted Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to announce efforts to secure new export markets and subsidize perishable goods. Economist Dr. Tatul Manaseryan expressed skepticism, suggesting that such rapid solutions appearing before elections indicate a superficial approach. He argued that Armenia has benefited significantly from its membership in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), with trade turnover increasing twelvefold over a decade, a growth rate unmatched globally. Manaseryan doubts the feasibility of European markets absorbing Armenian products, citing the internal production challenges within EU countries and the lack of familiarity with Armenian goods, particularly regarding competitive items like cognac. He also criticized the Armenian government's inaction on the CEPA agreement since 2017, which hinders relations with Europe while trade with Russia paradoxically grows, increasing dependency. Manaseryan also commented on a recent Armenian-Turkish business forum, suggesting it presents a unique opportunity for Turkey, which actively pursues its national interests, unlike the current Armenian administration.
