Brendan Sorsby eligible to play in 2026 after injunction win against NCAA 08.06.2026

Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby has secured a temporary injunction from the 99th District Court of Lubbock County, allowing him to play in the upcoming college football season. Sorsby sought this injunction against the NCAA following an investigation into his gambling addiction, which began during his true freshman season at Indiana in 2022. He had stepped away from the program to enter a residential treatment program after admitting to placing thousands of online bets, totaling over $90,000, on various sports, including professional leagues and collegiate athletics. The NCAA had previously denied his request for reinstatement for the 2026 season. While the judge's ruling permits Sorsby to compete, he will serve a two-game suspension for Texas Tech's initial matchups. NCAA president Charlie Baker expressed concern, calling the ruling an example of why congressional intervention is needed to enforce sports integrity rules consistently.
