Twenty-one other Indian crew members were rescued. U.S. Central Command stated the ship violated a blockade by attempting to transport Iranian oil and was disabled via precision munitions after the crew ignored directions. India summoned U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission Jason Meeks to lodge a strong protest, condemning the targeting of commercial shipping.
