Crisis Brews In MOPOL Unit As Police Commanders Pocket Officers' Allowances, Demand ₦70,000 Monthly Kickback 18h ago

Police Mobile Personnel (MOPOL) and Operations officers stationed at TotalEnergies in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, are accusing their Commanding Officers (COs) of systemic extortion, demanding a ₦70,000 monthly kickback from their newly increased allowances. These officers, deployed for high-risk duties protecting oil and gas assets, have appealed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Olatunji Disu and the AIG in charge of MOPOL for intervention. Sources revealed that the six COs allegedly collect this sum from each operative's ₦220,000 allowance, threatening punitive removal for non-compliance. The officers also allege that the COs are illegally inflating the payroll, collecting field allowances despite not performing duties, and that their welfare, including living conditions and food, is severely neglected. They are demanding the redeployment of the six COs, citing similar exploitation of officers guarding Chinese firms.
