The Hengaw Organisation for Human Rights reports that Iran secretly executed two Iraqis, Ali Nader Al Obeidi, 27, and Fazel Sheikh Karim, 29, on April 6, 2024, at Karaj central prison on espionage charges. Both men, from Amarah, were convicted by a Revolutionary Court for allegedly cooperating with an unspecified Arab state. They were arrested last year in Karaj and detained for approximately 11 months by the intelligence ministry and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The organization also stated that the men were subjected to torture during their detention. These executions allegedly took place just two days before a ceasefire was established following US and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28.
