A future pope will ‘welcome us back’, says priest from excommunicated Catholic sect 21h ago

A priest from the Society of St. Pius X, a traditionalist Catholic splinter sect, claimed during a mass in Wil, Switzerland, that a future pope will eventually welcome the excommunicated group back into the Church. The group faced excommunication this past Wednesday after ordaining four bishops without the required approval from Pope Leo. This schism follows the group's long-standing accusations that the Vatican has strayed from the true faith. Priest Georg Kopf argued that the recent ordinations were performed out of love for the Church to ensure the salvation of souls, rather than to establish a parallel institution. The group, established in 1970, practices the old-style Latin Mass and previously experienced a similar rupture in the late 1980s. Notably, the sect was successfully reintegrated in 2009 when Pope Benedict XVI lifted their previous excommunication.
