A skeleton has emerged from the closet in Ružomberok: The city faces the bill for past missteps 07.07.2026

The city of Ružomberok faces a substantial fine of 155,000 euros from the Public Procurement Office due to long-term legal violations. An audit confirmed that between 2017 and 2021, during the administration of former mayor Igor Čombor, the city paid millions of euros to the company Technické služby Ružomberok without a proper public tender. According to the investigation, sums exceeding 6.2 million euros were paid without fair tenders for waste removal and road maintenance. The current mayor, Ľubomír Kubáň, who previously warned of these irregularities, claims that the new administration has rectified the illegal situation, but the fine pertains to historical contracts. The city council is currently considering whether to accept an "admission of guilt," which could reduce the fine to approximately 77,500 euros, or to contest only the amount of the sanction.
