The Constitutional Court (TC) is facing a severe political crisis after issuing a ruling that invalidates key provisions of the “Protected Schools” law. The president of the body, Daniela Marzi, used her tie-breaking vote on three occasions to declare unconstitutional the authority of the Carabineros and the PDI to search students' backpacks, as well as the prohibition on wearing clothing that apologizes for violence. This decision has sparked harsh criticism from the right, where figures such as Deputy Pier Karlezi and Senator Arturo Squella accuse the court of exhibiting ideological bias and paying political favors to Gabriel Boric's government. In this scenario, sectors of both the ruling coalition and the opposition consider a constitutional reform necessary to modify the appointment system for TC ministers to prevent the politicization of the institution.
