Activist who protested outside Stephen Miller's home won't face state charges 05.05.2026

On May 5, 2026, Arlington and Falls Church Commonwealth Attorney Parisa Dehghani-Tafti announced that activist Barbara Wien will not face state charges for protesting outside White House adviser Stephen Miller's home in Arlington, Virginia. Wien, a former college professor specializing in peace-building, distributed flyers in August and September 2025 depicting Miller on a "Wanted" poster for "crimes against humanity" with his address, and another labeling him an "alt-right extremist." After a comprehensive 166-page review, Dehghani-Tafti found no evidence that Wien violated Virginia's law against using someone's identity to coerce, intimidate, or harass, noting the flyers solely encouraged protected political speech, such as petitioning Congress for an investigation. She stated that prosecution would likely violate Wien's First Amendment rights. Wien remains under a federal investigation with no charges filed, following rejected FBI search warrant attempts for her phone, and Dehghani-Tafti raised concerns about federal authorities potentially using the state case to further their own probe.
