Adam Silver stands by 65-game rule, gives update on Kawhi Leonard Aspiration investigation 04.06.2026

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has affirmed his support for the league's 65-game eligibility rule for individual awards, which was implemented in the 2023-24 season. Despite pushback from players and agents, Silver stated the rule is functioning as intended, noting that a significant number of previous All-NBA players did not meet this threshold. While exceptions can be granted, as seen with Luka Doncic and Cade Cunningham, Anthony Edwards' appeal was denied. Silver also indicated that the league is nearing the conclusion of its independent investigation into an endorsement deal between Kawhi Leonard, the Los Angeles Clippers, and the company Aspiration. This probe examines a $28 million deal signed in 2022, alleged to be a form of salary cap circumvention, with Clippers owner Steve Ballmer also having a personal investment in Aspiration. Silver emphasized that the investigation's outcome will be based solely on facts, irrespective of external factors like a journalist's award or the sentencing of Aspiration's co-founder.
