A German court in Munich sentenced 25-year-old Afghan national Farhad N. to life imprisonment on Thursday for a deadly car-ramming attack that killed a 37-year-old mother and her two-year-old daughter and injured dozens. The court found him guilty of two counts of murder, 23 counts of attempted murder, and 22 counts of bodily harm. The judge designated the crimes as having a "particular gravity of guilt," a legal finding that significantly reduces the possibility of parole. The attack occurred on the eve of the Munich Security Conference and just days before Germany's February 2025 general election, where immigration and security were central issues.
