After devastating storm, windmill owner receives good news from insurance company 07.07.2026

Windmill owner Janus Kerkhofs received good news on Tuesday from his insurer, which will cover the massive storm damage to his monumental Zilster windmill in Veldhoven. The historic windmill, dating from 1858, sustained damage during a severe storm in late June, estimated to be between one and 1.5 million euros. During the severe weather, the cap and the windshaft were completely torn from the mill, with the parts crashing onto the workshop. Although there was also damage to surrounding houses and cars, no one was injured. The owner is greatly relieved by the decision and has already begun clearing the debris and gathering materials. The restoration process, including the rebuilding of the workshop and the mill itself, is expected to take approximately two years.
