After Massive Criticism: End for Trump's Billion-Dollar Victim Fund 02.06.2026

The administration of US President Donald Trump has abandoned plans to establish a multi-billion dollar compensation fund following significant criticism. Originally, approximately 1.8 billion US dollars were to be allocated to compensate alleged victims of politically or ideologically motivated government actions. Critics feared that this fund, which resulted from a settlement in a lawsuit filed by Trump against the tax authorities, could be used to reward loyal supporters of the Republican, particularly those involved in the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot and subsequently indicted. The acting Attorney General confirmed to Congress that the fund will not be pursued, after pressure mounted from criticism within his own party and delays in budget votes.
