AI als advocaat? In Den Bosch pakte dit niet goed uit 22.02.2026

In Den Bosch, a man attempted to use ChatGPT to represent him in a December court case concerning the sale of an apartment in Andorra, but the AI generated inaccurate and fabricated legal arguments and case references. The buyer's lawyer, Erik Braun, reported that this led to significant extra work. The judge deemed the AI-generated submissions "legal botch work" and ruled the man had abused the legal process. This incident highlights concerns about the misuse of AI in legal proceedings, with three lawyers in the Netherlands having already received warnings for improper AI use, and two mandated to take AI courses. While AI can be a useful tool for tasks like summarizing or finding past rulings, relying on its output without verification is problematic, as AI-generated texts can appear logical even when incorrect.
