AI drives boom in one-person companies nationwide 15.05.2026

The increasing accessibility and sophistication of artificial intelligence tools are fueling a surge in one-person companies (OPCs) across China, enabling entrepreneurs to leverage personal expertise and online influence for lean, digitally powered businesses. Individuals like Wang Yao, who runs an OPC based on her personal growth channel "Wiley" with over 100,000 followers, find the model offers flexibility and low risk, utilizing AI for tasks like content creation and design, thus minimizing overhead. This AI-driven shift empowers individuals to build successful ventures without extensive teams or venture capital. By June 2025, China had over 16 million OPCs, representing 27.4 percent of all enterprises, with 2.86 million new OPCs registered in the first half of 2025 alone, a 47 percent year-on-year increase. However, experts emphasize that human judgment, market insight, and resilience remain crucial for sustainable success, cautioning against an over-reliance solely on AI for business viability.
