Will God speak to you through AI? No, AI doesn't go there 03.07.2026

A multi-university research group, the Consortium for Evaluation of Faith and Ethics in AI (CEFE-AI), has discovered that artificial intelligence models systematically omit religion when responding to ethical and existential questions. Analyzing over a dozen leading AI models, including those from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google, the researchers found that AI consistently steers users toward secular advice from friends, family, or therapists, excluding religious leaders. Furthermore, the study revealed a bias in AI's responses regarding faith exploration, with models showing a positive inclination towards Catholicism and a negative one toward Jehovah’s Witnesses. This pattern, though potentially unintentional, raises concerns about AI's potential to shape religious perspectives by excluding or misrepresenting diverse belief systems.
