The World Food Programme (WFP) has warned that food aid to Somalia could cease entirely by April due to a severe funding deficit. This comes as nearly one million people in Somalia are experiencing "severe hunger," exacerbated by consecutive failed rainy seasons, ongoing conflicts, and a significant drop in humanitarian funding. The WFP, Somalia's largest humanitarian agency, stated that a quarter of the population, approximately 4.4 million people, faces crisis levels of food insecurity. This potential halt in aid follows the United States' initial suspension of assistance in January, reportedly due to Somali officials destroying a WFP warehouse and seizing food aid in Mogadishu, though Washington announced a resumption of its food aid on January 29.
