Aide à l’Ukraine, sanctions contre la Russie : les menaces de veto de Viktor Orban bousculent les projets européens 24.02.2026

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has disrupted European Union plans to provide continued support to Ukraine, including a significant financial aid package and new sanctions against Russia. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa had intended to reaffirm the EU's "unconditional" support for Kyiv during a visit on Tuesday, February 24th, four years after the Russian invasion. However, Orban's government has indicated its readiness to veto the proposed twentieth sanctions package against Russia and a €90 billion aid package for Ukraine covering 2026 and 2027. European diplomats emphasize the urgency of this financial aid, as Ukraine, which has already received €195 billion from the EU since 2022, faces potential funding shortages by April, exacerbated by reduced American support.
