Al-Hakim: We do not need tanks to arrest a deputy or a politician because they are innocent until proven guilty » Baghdad Today News Agency 07.07.2026

The head of the State of National Forces Alliance, Ammar al-Hakim, emphasized on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, the necessity of conducting security operations in a calm atmosphere that suits the nature of the target. In a televised statement, al-Hakim explained that dealing with political figures or those accused in corruption files differs fundamentally from dealing with armed terrorists. He stressed that deputies and politicians do not require military intervention or the use of tanks and armored vehicles; rather, they can be summoned through civilian means or via contact to appear in court. He noted that some previous military operations utilized exaggerated means that were unnecessary to achieve their objectives, pointing out that security agencies may overreact in their procedures for fear of suspects fleeing, whereas subsequent investigative steps could be calmer and more disciplined to ensure justice is served away from military displays.
