Dr. Amira Balićevac-Sijerčić emphasizes the importance of correctly removing ticks with tweezers and disinfecting the bite site, advising patients to seek medical attention if they are unable to remove the tick themselves. Timely monitoring of symptoms such as redness or fever is crucial for the early detection and treatment of potential tick-borne diseases, such as Lyme disease, in which a significant number of ticks were found to be infected in a previous study. In addition to ticks, the hospital is also treating patients with acute allergic reactions to stings from bees, wasps, and hornets.
